WINDSOR-LAKE ST. CLAIR CATHOLIC FAMILY OF PARISHES YOUTH MINISTRY 2025 SCHOLARSHIP (Formally Shepherds Studies Bursary)
GENERAL INFORMATION
This Year, Windsor Lake St. Clair Catholic Family of Parishes (WLSC) will award a number of $1000 scholarships to graduating students who have been accepted to a post-secondary program as a full-time student. These awards are based on the overall merit of the students and are open to all parishioners of WLSC Parishes who are University or College bound students. The 5-member Evaluation Committee will assess and grade each application and select winners.
OBJECTIVE
Our purpose is to recognize the outstanding contributions made by our graduating students from WLSC Parishes, who exemplify the values and teachings of the Catholic Church. This process will evaluate and consider academic achievements, parish involvement, extracurricular activities, and community service.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION AND EVALUATION
Those wishing to apply must fill out the Application Form.
Candidates must be current registered members of WLSC Parishes, St. Jerome, St. Anne, Good Shepherd, St. Simon & St. Jude.
The application must be submitted in their last year of High School (Grade 12 or 5th year).
All applications are due to one of the Parishes by Wednesday May 14th, 2025 at 3:00 pm.
Applications received after the due date/time will NOT be accepted under any circumstances.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Any false or misleading information discovered during our verification process will result in disqualification of the entire application.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
1. Academic Achievement (Maximum 10 points)
a. The grades/marks for ALL courses taken in High School are obtained through the guidance office. Points are awarded for the overall average.
2. Parish Involvement (Maximum 20 points)
a. Evaluating participation in church activities, ministries, volunteer work, or leadership roles within the parish community.
3. Extra-Curricular Community Involvement (Maximum 10 points)
a. Recognizing engagement in community service, volunteer work, clubs, sports, or other activities outside of the parish.
4. Application Letter (Maximum 10 points)
a. Assessing the applicant's written communication skills, clarity of goals and aspirations, and their ability to express their connection to the Catholic faith and the WLSC community. The letter should address why the student feels they should be considered for the scholarship. It should have information about themselves, future goals, interests as well as why their Catholic Faith is important to them.
5. Recommendation Letters (Maximum 3 points)
a. Considering letters from individuals who can attest to the applicant's character, involvement, and potential for success in post-secondary education.
6. Attending a Catholic School & Participating in Religion Class (Maximum 10 points)
a. This category recognizes students who have attended a Catholic educational institution and have gained a unique perspective on the values and teachings of the Catholic faith. This includes points for each Catholic studies taken.
7. Overall Impression (Maximum 7 points)
a. This category considers neatness, spelling, grammar, complete application and presentation.
DUE DATE: The application must be submitted to a WLSC Parish in a sealed envelope to: WLSC Youth Ministry Scholarship Committee NO Later than Wednesday May 14th, 2025 by 3 PM.
